The Consumer Protection Act (CPA)
The purpose of this act in basic, is primarily to protect the consumer against exploitation and unfair marketing practices and to empower consumers to make wise, informed decisions.
The act then has the following aims:
- To promote a fair accessible and sustainable marketplace for consumers products and services by setting national norms and standards, relating to consumer protection
- To provide for the improved standards of consumer information
- To prohibit certain unfair marketing and business practices
- To promote responsible consumer behavior
- To harmonize laws relating to consumer protection
- To provide a consistent enforcement framework
The act in essence will regulate each transaction between a supplier and a consumer involving the supply of goods and/or services and regulating promotions of such goods, and the goods and services themselves.
